The great thing about this course. . oh well, basically everything, because learning to dive is just incredibly fun. You first learn to breath underwater (something you'll never forget) and learn what you need to know to get certified as a diver.

During the course you will experience at least five dives in a pool like environment and four dives at dive sites nearby under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

What you will learn

The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases:
  • Knowledge Development (independent study or in a classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
  • Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills
  • Open Water Dives to use your skills and explore!

    The Scuba Gear you will use

    In the PADI Open Water Diver course you will learn to use basic scuba gear including a dive computer, and standard accessories. The equipment you wear varies somewhat, depending on time of the year and the temperature of the water.

    The learning materials you need

    PADI offers a variety of materials for self-study for the Open Water Diver course. The material of the PADI Open Water Diver course covers what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and –safety procedures. You read a description of each concept and watch a video demonstration. Then you jump in an environment similar to a pool to practice these skills with your instructor. Later, as a certified diver, you can use the course materials as a reference guide for future diving adventures and to review what you have learned.

    Who should take this course

    To enrol in the PADI Open Water Diver-course or Junior Open Water Diver-course you:
    • Must be 10 years old, or older (for PADI eLearning the minimum age of 13 is required because of international law)
